David Bate
David Bate studied photography at the Polytechnic of Central London in the early 1980s, before moving to the Department of Fine Art at the University of Leeds. He is now widely known in the field of photography as an artist, writer and teacher.
His recent photographic work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, and the Biennale of Photography in Istanbul, as well as in many other countries, including France, Belgium, Estonia, Ireland, Canada and the UK. Next year will see him working on projects in Australia and Poland.
David/Bate has published a wide range of essays on contemporary photography, criticism, history and theory. His book entitled Photography and Surrealism (IB Taurus) came out in 2004. He is currently Reader in Photography and Course Leader of the MA Photographic Studies at the University of Westminster, London.
